VantTec is a group of students from Tec de Monterrey, focused on the research and development of autonomous vehicles. The team emerged in 2017 as a multidisciplinary project with undergraduate and graduate students interested in researching new technologies revolutionizing the field of STEM. With graduate student Pedro Fonseca as the leader, together with Juan Carlos Aguilera, the team was formed and the first project was developed: an autonomous unmanned boat. In need of a founding sponsor for the group, Definity First showed interest and supported the group financially and intellectually.
Over time, the team needed more members to begin developing technology in the areas of mechanics, electronics, software, controls, and communications. Nine people joined the team during the spring semester of 2017. From June 20 to June 25, 2017, the team traveled to Florida to compete internationally, where after this first competition, a legacy began. In this way, the small experiment done by the team members became a recognized group of autonomous vehicle research on campus.
